Kaizen Academy Staines is a martial arts club located in Egham, specialising in Karate, Kickboxing, and Muay Thai training. The club is led by Coach Tom Leask, a Sandan and 3rd level black belt in Shotokan Karate under the English Karate Federation. Coach Tom has achieved great success in his martial arts career, winning medals at World, European, and National level competitions and being selected for the JKA England national squad in 2023.
Coach Tom has been involved in martial arts for most of his life and understands the immense benefits and growth opportunities it provides. He is passionate about sharing his knowledge and helping students go through the same processes and experiences. He believes that martial arts can be a continuous self-development and refinement journey, benefiting not only the individual but also the collective to which they belong.
Kaizen Academy Staines welcomes individuals of all abilities, whether they are looking to compete, learn self-defence, or simply have a fun way to stay active and learn something new. The club offers classes in Shotokan Karate and Kickboxing/Muay Thai. While both disciplines are striking arts, they also incorporate elements of grappling. The different philosophies and methods of these arts complement each other well, creating a well-rounded understanding of striking and how it interacts with standing grappling.
Shotokan Karate, the style practised at the academy, is the first style of Karate adopted in mainland Japan and is widely practised worldwide. It focuses on using a variety of strikes, sweeps, and locks to subdue an attacker quickly and efficiently. Classes at Kaizen Academy Staines follow a structured programme that progressively develops effective techniques that can be applied quickly and under pressure.
In addition to Karate, the academy also offers Kickboxing and Muay Thai classes. Kickboxing is an umbrella term for combat sports that mainly focus on kicking and punching. The club focuses on two rule sets: K-1 and Muay Thai. K-1 allows kicks, punches, and knees to the legs, body, and head, while Muay Thai also incorporates elbows, clinching, sweeps, and throws.
The classes are designed to be fun and light-hearted, with members encouraged to push themselves while also taking care of their training partners.
Whether you are a child, teenager, or adult, Kaizen Academy Staines has classes suitable for everyone. The club provides a safe and welcoming environment for individuals to learn and grow in their martial arts journey.
