When you participate in sledging, you'll have full control over your purpose-built sledge, using flippers on your feet to navigate the river. Our friendly and professional guides will be there every step of the way, ensuring you have a safe and enjoyable experience.
Sledging is not for the faint-hearted, but it's a fantastic personal challenge that will get your heart pumping. It requires strong swimming abilities and good physical fitness, so be prepared for an intense physical activity.
Your journey will begin with a short 10-minute walk, carrying your sledge to the magnificent Kaituna waterfall. From there, you'll take on the river, experiencing it at eye level as you lie on a board and kick with your flippers. It's truly an incredible way to immerse yourself in the stunning scenery, rich culture, and fascinating history of the river.
To join in on the fun, you should be capable of sprinting 100 meters and recovering reasonably quickly. Please note that sledging is available from November 1st to April 30th, depending on availability, water levels, and minimum numbers. Additionally, the minimum age requirement is 15 years old.
Make sure to meet us at our base, Hangar 14s in Rotorua Airport, 837 Te Ngae Road, Rotorua, 15 minutes before your scheduled trip. We'll provide all the necessary equipment, so all you need to bring is a swimsuit and a sense of adventure.
