We want to emphasise that parental involvement is crucial to ensure the safety and well-being of our young participants. We kindly request that parents wear a vibrant yellow vest during the programme. This not only ensures that health and safety criteria are met but also allows parents to actively engage with their children and provide assistance in catching waves on their boards. Plus, it's an excellent opportunity for parents to connect with other like-minded individuals who are also involved in the programme. So let's make some new friendships out in the waves!
It's always a good idea for parents or caregivers to come prepared with wet gear, as you might find yourself getting in the water to assist during activities. Don't worry; we promise it'll be worth it to see those smiling faces and pure joy as the kids learn and enjoy the surf.
For those eager 13-year-olds, we have something just for you! The Rookie Lifeguard Programme focuses on core surf lifeguard skills, giving you a taste of what it's like to be a true lifesaver. As part of the programme, you'll even get the incredible opportunity to patrol alongside our experienced lifeguards. To participate, you'll need to have a 200m swim time under 4 minutes and 30 seconds. Rest assured, uniforms will be provided, but we do recommend purchasing fins for added performance.
If you're looking for some extra training and skill-building before the Christmas break, we've got you covered! We offer optional pre-Christmas training weeks for our eager young surf enthusiasts. It's an excellent chance to further enhance those skills and feel even more confident in the water.
Junior Surf events will be held from Monday to Friday, and uniform collection can be done at the Pauanui SLSC Lodge Office. So make sure you've got everything you need to hit the waves and have an unforgettable time!
