In America, Katie also had the opportunity to train and perform with renowned dance companies such as Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre and Complexions Contemporary Ballet.
Katie's passion for dance and performing arts led her to establish Jump Street School of Performing Arts in Kincumber over 20 years ago. Her goal was to create a space where students of all ages and skill levels could come together to explore their love for dance and theatrical arts.
At Jump Street, the focus is not just on technique and skill development, but also on fostering creativity, confidence, and self-expression. The expert instructors at Jump Street offer a wide range of dance styles including Jazz, Tap, R. A. D Ballet, Modern/Lyrical, Hip Hop, Funk, Contemporary, and acro.
In addition, they also provide professional acting skills training for both stage and screen.
The school caters to students of all age groups, starting from 2. 5 years old and going up to experienced dancers. Classes are categorised based on school years, from Preschoolers to Seniors, ensuring that each student receives age-appropriate instruction and guidance.
In addition to regular classes, Jump Street also organises special workshops and performance events throughout the year. They even participate in performances and tours around Australia and internationally. Students have had the incredible opportunity to dance in prestigious venues such as Dreamworld and Sea World in their annual QLD tour. They have also performed in iconic locations like Prague, Italy, and various theme parks in America, including Disneyland, California Adventureland, and Universal Studios.
One of the highlights of the year is Jump Street's annual concert, held at Laycock Street Theatre. This sell-out event provides all students with the chance to be a part of a large-scale show in a professional theatre space, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
