Joule's Market Drayton Bowling Club

Joule's Market Drayton Bowling Club is a historic and inclusive club located in the heart of Market Drayton, Shropshire. With a rich history dating back to the early 1800s, the club has been a cherished establishment in the community for over a century.

The club welcomes members of all ages, ranging from 5 years to 80 plus. Whether you're an experienced bowler or completely new to the sport, Joule's Market Drayton Bowling Club offers a warm and friendly environment for everyone to enjoy. The club boasts a strong presence in local leagues, with two senior teams competing in the Whitchurch League and the Market Drayton League. In addition, there are four evening teams that currently play on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. This ensures that members have ample opportunities to participate in competitive matches and develop their bowling skills.

Joule's Market Drayton Bowling Club takes pride in its rich history and connexion to its community. In the early 1880s, the club relocated to its current site after the owner of the land, Sir Corbet Corbet Lord of the Manor of Market Drayton, offered the club the use of the premises. The club used the green since 1882, and it has been continuously active, except the two World Wars.

Over the years, the club faced challenges regarding the future of the green due to changes in ownership and utility supplies. However, Joule's Brewery stepped in to support the club by providing a water supply, and the club invested in a generator to power the floodlights. In 2015, Joule's Brewery purchased the green, solidifying its commitment to preserving the club's legacy.

Joule's Brewery, rooted in the local history, has a long-standing association with the club. In the early 1900s, the brewery owned The Corbet Arms and supported the club. Hence, the recent purchase of the green marks a historically significant return to its roots.

Throughout the year, Joule's Market Drayton Bowling Club hosts various events and competitions to engage members and promote the sport. Members can look forward to the Green Opening on March 24th, 2023, which signifies the start of the bowling season. Additionally, there will be a Members Singles Competition on June 17th, 2023, for those looking to showcase their individual skills.

The club is also actively involved in local leagues such as the Market Drayton League and the Whitchurch League, participating in competitions such as the Jim Swire, Jubilee Doubles, Shropshire Star, and President's Cup. These events provide members with opportunities to compete against other clubs and further enhance their bowling abilities.
