JKA WF Northern Ireland is a reputable Karate school and physical fitness programme that is linked directly to JKA HQ in Japan. With a membership of 120 students, our clubs are located in Derry/Londonderry, Belfast, and Bangor. We pride ourselves in having fully qualified instructors who are recognised by the JKA in Japan and hold a minimum of 3rd Dan black belt.
At JKA WF Northern Ireland, we welcome individuals of all ages and skill levels to join our group and experience the benefits of traditional Shotokan Karate. Our classes provide not only an opportunity to learn a traditional art, but also to acquire self-defence skills, improve physical fitness, and grow in confidence. We believe in creating a friendly and supportive environment where everyone can have fun while training.
Our chief instructor, Sensei Kawasoe, holds an impressive 8th Dan JKA black belt. Born in 1945, Sensei Kawasoe started his martial arts journey in judo but was inspired to pursue karate after witnessing a demonstration at the age of 15. He trained extensively under the guidance of world-renowned Sensei Tysuama and later continued his training at the prestigious karate University of Takushoku. Sensei Kawasoe's dedication to his craft resulted in him being selected for the JKA instructors course under Sensei Nakayama, which he completed with great success.
Sensei Nakayama praised Sensei Kawasoe's mastery of karate basics and his ability to inspire others through his technique.
If you're interested in joining our classes, we offer a complimentary first lesson at any of our clubs across Northern Ireland. For more information about our clubs and class schedules, please visit our website or contact us through our email or phone number. We have clubs in Bangor and Derry/Londonderry, as well as in Belfast, and are constantly looking to expand our reach.
JKA WF Northern Ireland is proud to be a part of the Japan Karate Association. Established in 1948, the JKA has been highly regarded for its social activities and martial arts culture. It holds the distinction of being approved as a “corporate body” by the Ministry of Education in 1957 and was later recertified as a “public interest incorporated association” by the Prime Minister on March 21, 2012.
Join JKA WF Northern Ireland and embark on a journey of personal growth, physical fitness, and self-defence. We invite you to become a part of our karate community and experience the many benefits that come with training in Shotokan Karate.
