JJ's Gymnastics Academy, run by a passionate team of volunteers, has been a cornerstone of Pontefract for nearly 35 years. What started at Featherstone school as Featherstone Gymnastics Club later moved to Airedale High School about 20 years ago, gaining more space and better facilities. Recently, the club transitioned to its own venue, rebranding as JJ's Gymnastics Academy to honour the club's original founder, the late John Jefferies.
JJ's Gymnastics Academy offers a range of gymnastics classes aimed at both general enthusiasts and those specialising in women's artistic gymnastics. They're affiliated with British Gymnastics and regularly compete in events from the local Yorkshire circuit to the national stage.
Classes start from age 4, with beginners joining badge classes to grasp the basics of gymnastics. As gymnasts progress, they can move on to advanced badge classes, covering essential equipment like the floor, bars, beam, vault, and conditioning.
For those serious about the sport, the academy features two developmental squads for young talents up to their teenage years, focusing on skills, dance, performance, and presentation. Additionally, there are two main competitive squads competing at various levels, from grassroots to regional and national competitions.
Signing up is easy with their new online registration system. Parents can enter their child’s details and pick the most suitable class and schedule via the club’s website or Facebook page.
