Follow instructions, and to participate safely in the training session. We understand that parents may have concerns about their child participating in a martial art, so we encourage them to come and observe a session and speak with our instructors beforehand.
The Jacksons Lane Shotokan Karate Club prides itself on creating a friendly and inclusive environment for all members. Our instructors, Sensei Robins (Chief Instructor), Sensei Boothby (Senior Instructor), Sensei Cookson, and Sensei Forrester, are all experienced Dan grades in Shotokan Karate. They have dedicated themselves to the practise of martial arts and are passionate about sharing their knowledge and skills with others.
The club operates as a not-for-profit organisation, which means that both the instructors and the members are united by their love for the art rather than financial gain. This ensures that the focus remains on the development and growth of each individual's karate skills.
Membership of the Jacksons Lane Shotokan Karate Club is free and open to all. Whether you are a complete beginner or have previous martial arts experience, you are welcome to join us. We offer a complimentary observation session, so you can get a feel for our training style and see if it aligns with your goals and interests. Your first karate session is also free of charge.
Training sessions are held at Hazel Grove High School on Jacksons Lane. The club offers a variety of sessions to cater to different skill levels. After a joint warm-up, the sessions split into groups led by different instructors. This ensures that participants train with others of similar experience and skill levels, allowing for effective learning and progression.
Our training timetable includes two general karate training sessions, a junior training session, and a Shotokan Kata session each week. We also provide information on fees for ongoing training sessions on our website. The session fees are affordable, with 3 for adults and 2 for children.
For parents considering enrolling their child in karate, we have age restrictions in place to ensure the safety and well-being of our younger members. Children must be at least five years old and have already started attending school. We understand that children mature at different rates, so we require them to demonstrate their ability to understand and follow instructions, as well as participate safely in the training sessions.
The Jacksons Lane Shotokan Karate Club values the physical, mental, and emotional growth of its members. Through dedicated training and discipline, members can develop self-defence skills, improve their overall fitness, build confidence, and foster a positive attitude. We believe in the power of martial arts to instil discipline, resilience, and respect among our members.
If you are interested in joining our club or have any questions about karate or martial arts in general, don't hesitate to reach out. We are more than happy to provide additional information and assist you in any way we can. You can find our contact details on our website, along with a range of online resources and a gallery showcasing our club and its members in action.
