The Isle of Wight Mountain Bike Centre, located on Cheverton Farm in Newport, is a prime destination for mountain biking enthusiasts in the UK. Established in 2011 after the island games, it offers purpose-built trails in an area previously lacking such facilities. Under new management since September 2017, the centre, led by Jane Smith, aims to provide a unique experience for riders of all levels.
This centre stands out with its hybrid approach, merging distance loops with varied climbs and descents. Utilising multiple hills on the farmland, it features two hubs with downhill options rated as Blue (moderate), Red (difficult), and Black (very difficult), catering to every skill level.
Riders can explore technical trails with wooden roll-ins, roots, and loamy surfaces, or hit jump trails packed with table tops, berms, drops, and step-downs. Flow trails promise endless fun with their smooth corners and rollers.
Convenience is key at the centre, offering amenities like a car park, toilets, hot food and drinks, a tuck shop, bike wash facilities, a bike shop, and an onsite mechanic.
The centre also features various loops, each delivering distinct experiences. The green loop, introduced in 2022, spans 3.5 km with easy features and an all-weather surface—ideal for families. The 9 km blue loop, also new in 2022, boasts the “Twisted Wizard” descent with rollers, berms, and jumps. For a tougher challenge, the 4 km red loop, added in 2021, offers a natural, thrilling descent with “Phumf Tu Barb.”
Looking forward, Jane Smith's team plans to add a pump track to their attractions, providing an exciting space for riders to hone their skills on a compact course with berms and bumps.
With fantastic trails, essential amenities, and a commitment to growth, the Isle of Wight Mountain Bike Centre is set to become a go-to spot for riders across the UK.
