Islanders Sledge Hockey

Founded in 1986, the Islanders Sledge Hockey Club in Markham is a vibrant and inclusive community dedicated to promoting the sport of sledge hockey. Open to players of all ages, genders, and abilities, the club provides a welcoming environment for individuals to experience the thrill of Canada's favourite sport while fostering a sense of teamwork and camaraderie.

Sledge hockey, also known as Para Ice Hockey, follows the same rules as traditional ice hockey with six players on each side, including a goalie. Players sit on sledges equipped with skate blades and propel themselves using specially designed hockey sticks with pick ends. The club ensures that all players are properly equipped with full hockey gear and that sledges are adapted to suit individual needs, making the sport accessible to all.

The Islanders Sledge Hockey Club boasts an impressive track record, with the 2023 Intermediate C finalists and the 2024 London Blizzard Gold & Silver medalists in both the open and Intermediate C divisions. The club's commitment to excellence is further showcased during Champions Weekend, the culminating event of the Ontario Sledge Hockey Association (OSHA) season. This weekend features playoff semifinals and finals for all competitive levels, from juniors to elite, providing a thrilling showcase of talent and sportsmanship.
