Ipswich Ladies Bowls Club has a rich history, dating back to its formation in 1935. It was originally created due to the unrest at Ipswich Bowls Club, which was a mixed club that gave the ladies very few games each year. The ladies decided it was time to form a club of their own and many meetings were held in 1935 to make it a reality. The club played its first games at Dalton Street Bowls Green in 1936 and has been thriving ever since.
Throughout the years, Ipswich Ladies Bowls Club has faced challenges, including the suspension of play during the war years. However, the club's resilience and determination have allowed it to continue and thrive. It has moved to different venues over the years, including the Waveney Hotel in Bramford Road and Lower Brook Street, before finally settling at the Marlborough Bowls Green on Lansdowne Road in 1977.
The club operates on the same principles as in previous years, with a full fixture list of matches, competitions, drives, fundraising activities, and bridge. It has celebrated milestones, such as its Golden Jubilee, 60 years, and 75th anniversary. Ipswich Ladies Bowls Club is as strong as ever and looks forward to reaching its centenary in the future.
