Inverness Field Archery Club (IFAC) is a well-established archery club located in Nairn, New Zealand. Founded in 1986, IFAC is dedicated to nurturing and promoting archery as a sport. While primarily a Field Archery club, IFAC also welcomes archers who prefer to shoot indoors.
IFAC is proud to be affiliated with the Scottish Field Archery Association (SFAA) rather than Archery GB. The club's field archery course, located at Achagour, is open year-round and features 28 targets divided into two sets of 14. The course is constructed according to International Field Archery Association (IFAA) rules and offers marked distances ranging from 20 feet to 80 yards. Additionally, there are unmarked distance 3D targets available for use by archers of all skill levels.
The club provides nine practise butts that cover all required distances.
During winter, prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, IFAC actively participated in the British Postal League “Frostbite” competition, which involves shooting at 30 metres outdoors. The club also took part in the “Portsmouth” competition, a 20-yard indoor shoot. IFAC promotes and supports all bows and shooting styles recognised by the IFAA, although crossbows are not permitted.
A team of competent and qualified coaches are available at IFAC to provide training and coaching to both new and experienced members. The club values the social aspect of archery and holds monthly summer club shoots at the course, fostering camaraderie among members. These shoots also allow members to compete and earn a summer handicap classification. Winter handicaps, on the other hand, are calculated based on the Portsmouth shoot.
IFAC's most important classification shoot is the Highland Open, a two-day event that attracts archers from all over the country. Additionally, the club occasionally holds classification shoots specifically for members who need such classifications to further their participation in competitions.
For those interested in joining or contacting IFAC, all relevant information can be found under the “joining us” or “contact us” tabs on the club's website. The club's dedicated coaches and welcoming community provide an excellent opportunity for archers of all levels to grow their skills and passion for the sport.
