Invermay Bowling Club Inc is a well-established sports club situated in the vibrant city of Ballarat. With a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1958, the club has become a popular destination for both competitive bowlers and those seeking a social outlet.
The club prides itself on its inclusive and welcoming atmosphere, aiming to promote social membership as a gateway to becoming a competitive bowler. Currently, the club boasts around 500 members, with approximately 350 active bowlers and 150 social members. In recent years, Invermay Bowling Club has focused on improving both its social game and competitive standing.
Various activities are offered at the club to cater to different interests. In addition to regular men's, ladies', and mixed social matches, the club hosts Friday Night Bistro events and other social gatherings at the clubhouse and bar. One of the club's main initiatives is to attract younger members and increase overall bowler numbers by promoting social bowls activities such as Crackerjack and Barefoot Bowls. The bistro at the club serves an average of 60-80 counter meals each Friday evening.
For those interested in competing, the club offers opportunities to participate in Club Championship events or join the Midweek (Tuesday) and Weekend (Saturday) Pennants in the Geelong Bowls Region competition. In 2022, Invermay Bowling Club achieved a remarkable feat, with all seven Pennant teams making it to the finals and the Division 1 Pennant team winning the premiership and moving up to the premier League, the top grade for Geelong and Ballarat combined.
The club boasts excellent facilities, including three outdoor greens consisting of two grass greens and one synthetic green. The synthetic surfaced green, known as the 'Founder's Green,' is conveniently located in front of the clubhouse and features lighting for day and night play. Additionally, the club has a four-rink carpeted green beneath the clubhouse, which is used throughout the year for coaching and practise and can be heated for matches during winter. The clubhouse itself is spacious, able to accommodate over 160 members, players, or guests, and has a commercial-grade kitchen utilised for club event meals.
New members are encouraged to visit the club and experience the warm and friendly atmosphere firsthand. The camaraderie and sense of community within the club have been outstanding, and recent initiatives, such as the popular post-game wrap events, have further strengthened the bonds among members. The club believes that once individuals step through the gate and witness what Invermay Bowling Club has to offer, they will want to become part of this thriving community.
