Institut de Wushu de Montral

The Institut de Wushu de Montral is a dedicated school for the teaching of traditional and modern Chinese martial arts. In today's world outside of China, the term "Wushu” is often associated with its modern, demonstration-focused, aesthetic, and acrobatic form. Its traditional version, more commonly known as “Kung-Fu,” delves into the practical application of the art in real combat situations without rules or restrictions. Its sportive aspect, called “Sanda,” is a full-contact combat sport that includes various strikes, sweeps, and throws.

In reality, Wushu encompasses all these aspects, and at the Institut, students have the opportunity to learn all these facets in a comprehensive and accessible class.

Whether there are 2 or 30 people in a class, the key is to have motivated individuals with the desire to push themselves to excel. The founder, Rnald Meunier Daure, began his martial arts journey in 1990 with karate at the age of 7. He then discovered Chinese martial arts in Edmonton at the age of 15 and continued his practice with arts from Shaolin, transitioning to modern Wushu and Sanda in the year 2000. Concurrently, he also practices and continues to learn in Kendo, where he currently holds a 5th dan black belt.

He obtained his PNCE 1 coaching certificate in Kick-Boxing and Low Kick from Sport Qubec and the Corporation de Kick-Boxing amateur du Qubec in 2013. Having trained with the best in his disciplines in China and regularly visiting Japan to train alongside Tokyo prison wardens and the emperor's guard in Kendo, he has dedicated a significant portion of his life to understanding and sharing martial arts.

In recent years, he has focused on deepening his knowledge in Baji Quan, a traditional style known for its striking power. Under the tutelage of renowned masters, he continues his learning journey while teaching the fundamental principles of the style to new enthusiasts. The school's premises offer a spacious and safe training area, ideal for practising grappling techniques, throws, and standing combat. Additionally, a separate space is designated for physical conditioning, and changing rooms and showers are available for convenience.
