In-home Holistic Personal Training, located in Horsfield Bay, offers a unique approach to personal training that combines traditional personal training techniques with mindfulness and martial arts. The programme is designed to strengthen both the body and mind, optimise overall wellness, and reduce stress.
The sessions are personalised to suit the individual's fitness level, interests, and goals. The trainer believes that exercise should be enjoyable and sustainable, and does not employ drill sergeant-like tactics or push clients to the point of exhaustion. Instead, the sessions are guided by how the client feels on that particular day. If the client is feeling tired and run down, the focus may be on stretching and breathing exercises.
Conversely, if the client is feeling great, the trainer will push for personal bests.
Functional strength training is a key component of the programme. It aims to make clients feel strong and confident in their bodies, while also developing mental fortitude. This is achieved through a combination of free weights and bodyweight exercises in functional movement patterns. The principles learned during strength training can be applied to daily life, strengthening the entire physical structure, increasing energy production, improving cardiovascular capacity, and enhancing coordination and cognition.
Posture, alignment, and body mechanics are also emphasised in the sessions. Correct posture and alignment are crucial for avoiding injury, both during exercise and daily activities. Additionally, these practises can help to relieve or eliminate existing joint pain. Learning correct body mechanics makes the body stronger and more stable during movement.
Flexibility is another important aspect of the programme. As we age, muscles and connective tissues naturally shorten unless they are taken through their full range of motion. Through the use of yoga asana and stretching techniques, clients are able to lengthen these tissues and improve flexibility. Stretching not only relieves pain and stiffness in muscles and joints, but also increases blood flow throughout the body, promoting healing and overall wellbeing.
In terms of nutrition, clients are taught how to optimise their eating habits to improve body composition, increase energy levels, enhance cognition, and improve mood. Nutritional changes can even have a positive impact on mental health, helping to alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety. The programme also explores the benefits of fasting as a way to promote weight loss and trigger the body's natural healing capabilities.
Mindfulness and meditation are also incorporated into the programme. Exercise is viewed as a moving meditation, a way to connect the mind with the body and be fully present in the moment. Challenging exercises force clients to be completely focused and present, helping them to achieve the same level of mindfulness in their day-to-day lives. A short meditation or set of breathing exercises may be done at the beginning of each session to promote presence and re-energise the body and mind.
Being mindful of both the body and mind allows clients to better understand their own needs and support themselves accordingly.
Lastly, the trainer's understanding of training and body mechanics is influenced by martial arts. Striking and self-defence techniques are also taught, with pads and a heavy bag available for practise.
In-home Holistic Personal Training offers a comprehensive approach to fitness and wellness, combining multiple disciplines to optimise physical and mental wellbeing. The programme is tailored to each client's needs and goals, with an emphasis on enjoyable and sustainable practises.
