Ingleton Swimming Pool, located in the picturesque village of Carnforth, is a well-known and beloved public swimming facility. Known as one of the best lidos in the north of England, it offers a unique and refreshing swimming experience for visitors of all ages.
Originally built in 1933 by local volunteers, including miners from the New Ingleton Colliery, the swimming pool holds a rich history that can be explored on its dedicated History page. Today, the pool is managed by a committee of dedicated community members who generously volunteer their time and efforts to keep this facility running.
As a registered charity (Ingleton Rural Community Association Charitable Incorporated Organisation No: 1171743), all the funds raised by the activities at Ingleton Swimming Pool are reinvested into its operations, ensuring that this exceptional facility remains open to the public.
Visitors can find the swimming pool near the village centre, nestled in the riverside park down the hill from Ingleton Youth Hostel. The pool does not have its own parking area, but a public car park is conveniently located at the Ingleton Community Centre.
Opening times for the pool vary depending on the season. Currently, the pool is open for cold water swimming each weekend until Friday, 15 December. However, during the summer months, the pool offers heated sessions open to the public on a daily basis, including dedicated Adult Only swim sessions. Additionally, swimming lessons for children are organised during school holidays.
Private pool hire bookings are also available for those looking for a more exclusive experience.
Ingleton Swimming Pool features a small shop on-site, providing a range of refreshments for both swimmers and spectators. From hot and cold drinks to an assortment of sweets and crisps, the shop ensures that visitors have access to all their snacking needs. Swim nappies are also available for purchase, and if you forget your swim costume or towel, you have the option to hire them from the shop. Card payments are accepted for convenience.
Stay connected with Ingleton Swimming Pool by following their social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter. The pool's website, designed by Alexander Marketing, offers useful links to explore the village, the parish council, and the local community association.
Whether you're a local resident or a tourist passing through Carnforth, Ingleton Swimming Pool welcomes you to enjoy a refreshing swim and create lasting memories. The committee members, staff, volunteers, and helpers associated with the pool wish you a fantastic summer and an enjoyable time in their unique swimming facility.
