The Hurricane Dragon Boat and Outrigger Canoe Club, located in East Fremantle, is a vibrant and passionate paddling community. Established in November 2009 by a dedicated group of paddlers with a background in Dragon Boat Racing, the club has since expanded its focus to include outriggers.
The club's philosophy is centred around the belief that passion and commitment are irreplaceable, and there can be no compromise when it comes to achieving excellence in paddling. With this guiding principle, Hurricane Paddling encourages members to train throughout the year, always striving to improve their skills and performance on the water. New paddlers of all levels are warmly welcomed and encouraged to come and join in the experience.
The club offers a range of training sessions to cater to different interests and schedules. At the Hurricane home base, members can partake in OC1 and OC6 training sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4pm and 6pm respectively. Additionally, Sunday mornings offer an opportunity for OC6 training at 8am. Junior paddlers aged 8 to 18 have dedicated training sessions on Wednesdays at 5pm and Sundays at 9am.
Hurricane Paddling has a proud history of participating in various competitive events. In 2023, the club achieved success in the ICF Canoe Ocean Racing World Championships and the AOCRA National Marathon. One of the upcoming events on the club's calendar is “The Doctor,” a thrilling race from Rottnest Island to Sorrento Beach, scheduled for November 25th, 2023.
