The Huon Yacht Club, as it stands today, was established on October 29th, 1947. Within two weeks of its inception, racing began with the help of a pick-up boat provided by a local resident. Since then, the club has seen many successes both locally and internationally, with members participating in various sailing competitions.
The clubhouse, a testament to the club's strong community spirit, was built by its members and officially opened on October 12th, 1957. One of its unique features is the starter's box located on top of the clubhouse, offering officials a perfect view of the races on the river. This clubhouse serves as a gathering place for members to socialise and share their love for sailing.
The Huon Yacht Club's sailing season typically runs from October to March. They host a variety of sailing and social events throughout the year, including general meetings on the first Friday of each month at the clubhouse. Additionally, there is a monthly social get-together called the Patron's Drinks on the third Friday of the month, where members and guests can enjoy nibbles, finger food, and drinks from the bar.
The club also embraces the spirit of competition with regular races and encourages both experienced sailors and newcomers to participate. They provide sailing courses for those interested in learning the sport or improving their skills.
