Hunter Valley Traditional Archers is a renowned traditional archery club located in Black Hill, NSW, just outside of Newcastle. Since its formation in 1987, the club has been committed to preserving the rich heritage and craftsmanship of traditional archery in Australia.
Known for its family-friendly environment, Hunter Valley Traditional Archers warmly welcomes archers of all skill levels. Whether you've been shooting a traditional bow for years or are just starting out, you'll find a supportive and inclusive community at our club.
The club hosts regular club shoots every second Sunday, providing archers with an opportunity to practise and hone their skills. In June, the shoot weekends are held on the 11th and 25th. These shoots are open to both members and non-members, with a fee of $5 for club members and $10 for non-members. Those who don't have their own equipment can also hire gear for a $10 deposit.
Our collection includes an array of recurves, longbows, and bows suitable for kids, along with arrows, quivers, arm guards, and gloves.
Hunter Valley Traditional Archers takes pride in organising two major shoots every year. “The Gathering” is a highly anticipated event held over the June long weekend. Renowned traditional archers from all corners of Australia come together at our club to participate in this friendly competition. Featuring three 10-target ranges and novelty targets like the running pig, bow bird, the hunt round, rolling disc, speed round, and the broad head range, “The Gathering” attracts 130+ archers from across the country.
Camping on the club grounds is available during this exciting weekend.
” The Andrew Spiechowicz Memorial Charity Shoot” is another notable event hosted by Hunter Valley Traditional Archers. First held in 2009, this charity shoot has become the club's second major shoot of the year. The proceeds from this weekend go to various non-profit organisations such as the Cancer Council, Leukaemia Foundation, Bonnie Babes, Livin, and Cerebral Palsy Alliance. Similar to “The Gathering” weekend, it showcases 3D target ranges and novelty targets.
