Shukokai, the style of karate practised at Huddersfield Shukokai, was introduced to the UK in 1968 by Japanese instructors Tani Sensei (1921-1998) and Kimura Sensei (1941-1995). Tani Sensei had extensive training under Chojun Miyagi (Goju ryu) and Kenwa Mabuni (founder of Shito-ryu). With determination and passion, Tani Sensei formed his own karate group, Shukokai, which grew rapidly. Following Sensei Tani's passing in 1998, Sensei Haruyoshi Yamada was elected as the head of the Shito-Ryu Shukokai Karate-do Union.

At Huddersfield Shukokai, members have the opportunity to be part of the (Yamada Ha Shito Ryu Shukokai Karate Do Union), further reinforcing their affiliation with the broader karate community. The club's website provides members with a secure online platform where they can access exclusive content, news updates, class schedules, and a calendar of events.
