Huddersfield RUFC Bowling Club calls Lockwood Park grounds in Huddersfield home and has been a lively part of the community since 1997. The club’s roots go back to the early 1920s when Bentley and Shaw Ltd. built the Bowling Green. After a bit of a quiet spell post-1990, the club came back to life when the Huddersfield RUFC Bowling Club was set up.
Thanks to hard work from the founder members and the committee, the club quickly joined the Elland and Works Leagues in 1998. At first, many players were just starting out, but by 1999, there were six teams, including a Ladies' team, and results were picking up.
Today, Huddersfield RUFC Bowling Club proudly fields nine teams, including Men's, Ladies', and Mixed, competing in different leagues around Huddersfield, Colne Valley, and Brighouse. Friendly captains keep things running smoothly, ensuring everyone enjoys the game.
New members of all skill levels are always welcome. Whether you’re an old hand at bowling or keen to give it a try, you’ll find your place here. Just get in touch with the Chairman or Secretary for more details or grab a membership form from the website.
The green takes a break for winter starting October 1st, but summer is full of social bowling and club competitions. Winners of these competitions get celebrated and featured on the club’s website.
Huddersfield RUFC Bowling Club is all about welcoming new faces and enjoying the game together. If you’re around Huddersfield and love lawn bowls, this is the place to be for competitive play, improving your game, and making great friends.
