Howitt Park Bowls Club, located in Bairnsdale, is a renowned sports club in East Gippsland with a rich history dating back to its formation in 1977. Situated amidst beautiful surroundings, the club boasts a well-maintained 8 rink green, planted with the exclusive 007 variety of Bent grass, making it the only green of its kind in the region. A diligent professional greenkeeper ensures that the green is always in impeccable condition.
With approximately 70 members, Howitt Park Bowls Club warmly welcomes new members who have a passion for the sport. The club provides an inviting and friendly atmosphere where both seasoned players and beginners can come together to enjoy the sport they love. The clubhouse, constructed in 1986, can comfortably accommodate up to 64 people, making it an ideal venue for various functions and events.
As a licenced club, Howitt Park Bowls Club offers a range of packaged beers and mixed drinks to quench your thirst while enjoying a game. The bar is staffed by volunteers and is open whenever there is a bowls game taking place. In addition to social bowls and functions, the club annually hosts Men's and Women's Singles, Pairs, Triples, and Fours Championships, providing members with opportunities to showcase their skills and compete amongst their peers.
The club actively participates in the Gippsland Bowls Region's pennant competitions. This includes the Saturday pennant competition, which runs from October to early March and consists of four divisions, as well as the Tuesday mid-week pennant competition, also featuring four divisions. The club fields teams for various divisions, utilising the expertise of both male and female players. Howitt Park Bowls Club selects its teams based on merit, ensuring the best outcomes for the club.
Apart from competitive play, Howitt Park Bowls Club recognises the importance of socialising and organising events that foster camaraderie amongst bowlers. The club organises regular mid-week and Sunday social games, allowing bowlers from all clubs in East Gippsland to participate. Monday afternoons are reserved for Howitt Park's own social games, open to individuals or teams and played in a friendly yet competitive environment. Uniforms or whites are not required, and both men and women are welcome to join in the fun.
