Welcome to the Horsham Karate Club, a part of the Samurai Enlighten Mushin Wado Ryu Karate Academy (S. E. M. K.
A). With our updated site, we are excited to offer spaces in all our clubs for new members. Regardless of your ability or style, we welcome beginners and invite you to come and check us out. To make it even more enticing, we offer the first two lessons for free, allowing you to see if Karate is the right fit for you.
At Horsham Karate Club, we pride ourselves on providing structured classes that cater to the individual needs and abilities of our members. We understand that a 'one size fits all' approach doesn't work for everyone, which is why we offer classes tailored to different age groups and abilities on different days or at different times. This allows our students to achieve their goals and milestones at their own pace.
We are a group of Karate clubs based in Sussex, focused on teaching traditional Wado-Ryu Karate. Currently, we are running courses for beginners, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to start their Karate journey with a solid foundation. Our students benefit from what we call the ABCs that make a difference: the FUNdamentals of agility, balance, and coordination.
Agility focuses on starting, stopping, changing direction, rotation, reaction, and complex movements. Balance covers the height of the centre of gravity, centre and base, losing balance, extending the base, positioning the centre of gravity, counterbalance, and moving forces. Finally, coordination involves organising limbs, generating force, differentiating force, speed and accuracy, and interception.
Located in Horsham, Crawley, and Broadbridge Health, our Karate clubs offer classes for both adults and children aged 6 and above. We welcome complete beginners as well as experienced practitioners looking to change styles, newcomers to the Sussex area, or those returning to martial arts after a break.
Under the guidance of Paul Elliott, 8th Dan, Shogo Kyoshi, our clubs operate in affiliation with the British Wado Federation (BWF), European Wado Federation (EWF), and International Wado Federation (IWF). Paul has been teaching traditional Wado-Ryu since 1980, and he has an extensive range of skills and qualifications that complement his Karate knowledge.
To ensure the highest standard of instruction, all our instructors have attended and qualified on various courses, including First Aid, Coaching Children, Protecting Children, Safe Training, and Karate Teaching Skills. Additionally, each club and instructor holds Martial Arts Insurance, offering professional indemnity and public liability, including member-to-member liability.
When it comes to policies and procedures, we are committed to adhering to well-drafted and fully-implemented guidelines. From Child Protection to Race Relations, we have comprehensive policies in place. You can find these on the British Wado Federation (BWF) website.
We are always eager to hear from individuals of all ages and interests in Karate. Feel free to reach out to us and join one of our classes. You can find more information on our 'Find a Club' page on our website.
