Horsham Downs Golf Club

Horsham Downs Golf Club is a renowned golf course located in Horsham Downs, Hamilton, New Zealand. Established in May 1944, this nine-hole course is situated on the picturesque banks of the Waikato River, offering golfers a scenic and tranquil setting to enjoy their game.

Known for their welcoming and friendly atmosphere, Horsham Downs Golf Club caters to golfers of all skill levels. Originally formed by a small group of golf enthusiasts on Aubrey Boyd's farm, the club primarily consisted of local farmers and their wives. However, in the mid-1960s, membership opened up to city dwellers from Hamilton City.

When initially established, the course featured six holes within a single paddock. However, recognising the need for future growth and development, the club acquired the present site on the Rototuna Domain in 1949. Through the dedication and efforts of the pioneering members, the gorse, and blackberry reserve was transformed into the popular and well-regarded course layout that exists today.

In 2019, Horsham Downs Golf Club proudly celebrated its 75th Jubilee, where past and present members came together to enjoy golf, darts, food, drinks, music, and laughter. This milestone event marked the club's rich history and the strong community it has fostered.

The club's patron is Michael McNally, and they have a distinguished list of life members, including Dick Allen, Nick Carter, Barry Downs, Doug Endres, Peter Kelly, Howard McNally, Peter Wiseley, Bev Endres, Mike Linnegar, and Brian Morgan. The establishment of their original clubhouse on the current site in 1950 stands as a testament to their commitment to providing a comfortable and inviting environment for members.

The Horsham Downs Golf Club boasts a knowledgeable and experienced staff. Gary Kemble serves as the club manager, ensuring the smooth operation of the club and addressing any member inquiries or concerns. The club's contact information is as follows: 1991 River Road, Flagstaff, Hamilton, New Zealand, with a postal address of PO Box 12160, Chartwell Square, Hamilton 3210. The course is open from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm, and the office operates from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday.

The club is governed by an executive committee led by President Peter Wiseley, Secretary Mike Linnegar, and Treasurer Phil Harris. Mark Poole serves as the club captain, with Nathan Winders as the vice captain, Lynne McKeown as the ladies' captain, and Dale Alker as the men's veterans captain. The match committee consists of Kurt Bolli, Robert Cropp, and Patrick Reeves.
