Welcome to Horsenden, located in Perivale and Greenford, in the London borough of Ealing. Horsenden Hill and Horsenden Farm are managed and looked after by the Ealing Rangers and the volunteer group, the Friends of Horsenden Hill.
At Horsenden, conservation efforts are focused on restoring, maintaining, and creating new habitats, including ancient woodland, hedgerows, meadows, and wetlands. The farm is home to a diverse range of plants and animals, providing visitors with a unique opportunity to experience and appreciate nature.
The community plays a significant role at Horsenden, with the farm hosting events that celebrate the natural history and heritage of the hill. These events bring together locals and visitors from afar, fostering a sense of community while enjoying the farm and its surroundings.
Learning about nature is also encouraged at Horsenden, with people of all ages invited to get involved in volunteering and experience the seasonal changes that occur throughout the year. The Horsenden volunteers are a dedicated group that welcomes new members, providing opportunities to contribute to the conservation efforts and learn about the natural environment.
Spanning 90 hectares, Horsenden is the largest single nature conservation site within the borough of Ealing. It consists of meadows, wetlands, and woodland habitats. The area boasts ancient woodlands, grasslands, ponds, and hedgerows, all contributing to the abundance of wildlife found on the farm. Horsenden offers visitors a chance to escape from city life and immerse themselves in the beauty of nature.
The farm is divided into three distinct sections. Horsenden East, located along Horsenden Lane North, features large areas of woodland and patches of managed grassland where cattle graze. The summit of Horsenden East offers stunning views, as it stands at 84 metres above sea level, making it the highest point in Ealing.
On the opposite side of the lane, Horsenden West borders the Grand Union Canal and consists of wildflower meadows, hedgerows, and ponds. Just south of the canal lies Paradise Fields, a peaceful haven for both wildlife and visitors, boasting scrapes, reed beds, and lagoons.
Horsenden Farm, nestled at the base of the hill, offers various attractions for visitors. A children's play park, complete with swings, a maze, and a pirate ship, ensures fun-filled experiences for youngsters. The Sensory Garden provides a tranquil space, while enchanting original artwork and sculptured installations add to the farm's charm.
The Farm Courtyard and Hayloft serve as the hub for community events, such as the Farm Shop, where visitors can purchase locally produced goods. The Perivale Brewery Tap Days, guided nature walks, open days, craft workshops, foraging days, and volunteer activities are also hosted here. The farm's car park and children's play area are accessible every day of the year.
Food and drink lovers will not be disappointed at Horsenden. The Horsenden Loaf, located in the Hayloft, bakes a tempting array of fresh savoury and sweet treats. They also serve excellent coffee and other beverages. On Saturdays, visitors have the opportunity to purchase bottles of beer from the Perivale Brewery, a microbrewery that creates small-run seasonal batches, often utilising locally foraged ingredients.
Monthly tap days feature draught beer on tap and tasty clay oven-baked pizzas. These tap days are not to be missed.
