Chris, the organiser, wants to share some exciting updates about Hornsea Sailing Club with the sports community. Located on Hornsea Mere, Yorkshire's largest natural lake, this spot is not just a haven for wildlife but also a fantastic place for sailing. The lake's 250 acres offer an excellent setting for sailors of all levels.
Hornsea Sailing Club has been a key part of the local scene since 1946, bringing together sailing enthusiasts for over 75 years. The club's membership options cater to everyone, from seasoned sailors to complete beginners, and offer plenty of opportunities for learning, competitions, and social gatherings.
Beginners will find Hornsea Mere particularly welcoming, with a maximum depth of just 2.5 metres, making it a safe space to get started. Safety is paramount, and the safety boat is always manned during operational hours.
The club operates from Monday to Saturday with safety boat cover from 10am to 12:15pm and 12:45pm to 3:00pm. The last launch is at 2:00pm, and everyone needs to be off the water and out of the clubhouse by 3:00pm. On Sundays, there's an extended opportunity to sail with safety boat cover from 10:30am to 4:00pm. Wednesday evenings from 6:45pm to 8:00pm are reserved for specific activities outlined in the club's programme.
Each September, the club hosts its much-anticipated annual regatta, bringing together sailors for a weekend of races and fun. Photos from past events capture the community spirit and enthusiasm that define the club.
This past season was a standout, with trophies awarded to the racing prize winners during the AGM. A special mention goes to Charlie Cartwright, awarded 'Club Member of the Year' for his exceptional contributions to the club and the Management Committee.
With the season now over, Chris reminds members to ensure their boats in the boat park are securely tied down and to check boats on the mere shore line due to rising water levels.
Member renewal notifications are sent out well before the new season starts, giving members a chance to pay early and avail any discounts.
Hornsea Sailing Club always has something going on. The club's website is the go-to for a full calendar of upcoming events, including committee meetings, working days, and races. Members can also access their duty roster, check the local weather forecast, download sailing instructions, and find resources specific to their membership.
So, whether you're an experienced sailor, just starting out, or simply looking to enjoy the beauty of Hornsea Mere, Hornsea Sailing Club extends a warm welcome. Reach out to the club today to begin your sailing journey.
