Hoppers Crossing Netball Association (HCNA) is a vibrant and inclusive netball club located in Hoppers Crossing, a suburb in the Wyndham community of Victoria, Australia. Established in 1972, HCNA has played a significant role in providing opportunities for young people in the community to participate in the sport of netball.
From humble beginnings with just four teams of under 10s, HCNA has grown immensely over the past forty-five years and now boasts nearly 40 teams and over 350 children involved in games held at our Mossfiel Reserve courts every Saturday morning. Our club caters to a range of age divisions, including Junior Development, under 11s, under 13s, under 15s, under 18s, and Opens. Additionally, we offer a NetSetGO programme aimed at basic skills training for children aged 5–8 years old.
As a club, we recognise the challenges that come with competing for young members' attention in a world of various other sports and pastimes. However, we are committed to providing a fun and professional approach both on and off the court to ensure a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for children to participate in netball. We believe in fostering a sense of community and incorporating the many benefits that a successful sporting association can bring to the wider community.
In 2015-2016, HCNA underwent a major facelift, with upgraded and resurfaced courts, new fences, shelters, and lighting. Additionally, in August 2017, after unanimous support from our Life Members and team delegates, we decided to make a minor name change to Hoppers Crossing Netball Association (HCNA), dropping the 'Junior' from our name. This change aligns with the recommendations from a strategic planning exercise with Netball Victoria three years ago. As we expand our competitions to include Thursday twilight Women's and Mixed leagues, the name change reflects our growing focus but still acknowledges our strong foundation in junior netball.
HCNA is committed to embracing change and will methodically implement the necessary adjustments to our logo, website, Facebook page, signage, and apparel to reflect the new name accurately. Our primary focus remains on the promotion and implementation of our Saturday junior competitions, but we are excited to continue expanding and improving our offerings to the wider netball community.
