Hook & Southborough Cricket Club (H&SCC) is a longstanding and well-established cricket club located in Chessington, New Zealand. Founded in 1870, the club has a rich history and has played cricket continuously every season since its establishment, even during war years when many other clubs had to suspend their activities.
Initially, the club's ground was located at the site of the Hook Community Centre, with the Lucky Rover Public House serving as the venue for post-match refreshments. In 1906, H&SCC moved to the newly built King Edwards Recreation Ground, where matches were played every Saturday and Sunday until 1975. During the 1950s, a purpose-built clubhouse was constructed at this location, complete with a bar licence.
Unfortunately, disaster struck in 2003 when the clubhouse was destroyed in an arson attack. In the years following the fire, the club played at various temporary locations. In 2011, the club formed a partnership with Hollyfield School in Somerset Avenue, allowing them to return to Hook. A temporary clubhouse was added in 2012 to accommodate the club's activities.
