Honley Cricket Club, located in Holmfirth, is a renowned club with a rich history and a thriving junior section. Established in 1878, the club has been a member of the Drakes Huddersfield Cricket League since 1894-1915 and from 1920 to the present day. Honley Cricket Club is listed in the 'Rothmans Book of Village Cricket' and Jonathan Rice's 'The Pavilion book of Pavilions', further highlighting its significance in the cricket community.
The Cricket Ground, on which the club is situated, has been in the possession of the club since 1928. The freehold title is held in trust forever as a sporting venue for the people of Honley. The club has achieved numerous significant milestones over the years. In 1969, it hosted a Geoff Boycott benefit match, and in 2005, the First XI won the Huddersfield League Title for the first time.
The team went on to win the title again in 2006, 2007, and 2008, creating a historic run of four consecutive league titles. Moreover, they won the title in 2010 and 2011, as well as the Sykes Cup in 2005 and 2006, and the highly coveted Black Sheep Yorkshire Champions Trophy in 2008. These achievements solidify Honley CC as one of the most successful clubs in the League's history.
Honley Cricket Club takes great pride in its junior section, where local youngsters are nurtured and taught by qualified coaches. Junior training sessions run every Friday from 6 to 7:30 pm for under 7s, 9s, 11s, 13s, and 15s, as well as on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8 pm for the under 17s. The club also organises tournaments and fixtures for the various age groups, providing valuable opportunities for young cricketers to develop their skills.
Membership is a crucial part of Honley Cricket Club, and all members are required to pay their dues by May 31st, 2023. The club offers a variety of membership types to cater to different needs. Player memberships include Junior Playing Member for individuals up to 17 years old, Senior Playing Membership, and Player Life Memberships with different fee structures. Social memberships are also available, including Single and Senior Citizen Memberships.
