The senior instructors at Hokuto-Kai Karate are highly accomplished in their own right. Mark, one of the senior instructors, began training in 1989 and further excelled in martial arts. He emerged as a silver medallist in individual kumite (fighting) at a 1993 tournament and represented England in international competitions. With his vast experience, Mark established the Hokuto-Kai club in 2008 and has continued to expand his knowledge and pass it on to eager students.
In 2021, Mark achieved his Yondan (4th Dan) Black Belt grade, a testament to his dedication and skill.
John, another senior instructor, boasts over 35 years of experience in martial arts. He firmly believes that Karate provides the necessary discipline and focus to succeed in various aspects of life. John specialises in Kata Bunkai and focuses on the real-world application of close-range unarmed fighting techniques. He is currently a Yondan (4th Dan) level instructor in Wado Ryu and continues to train with influential martial arts instructors.
Club instructors Ian Ronson and Steve Bainbridge also contribute to the growth and development of Hokuto-Kai Karate. Ian started his training in 1988 with a focus on self-defence but soon realised the holistic benefits of Karate. Ian has been teaching since he achieved his Brown belt in 2001 and emphasises technicality in his instructing style. Similarly, Steve began his training in 1987, initially drawn to the discipline and control aspects of Karate.
He values the self-defence elements of the sport and has a keen interest in Wado Ryu, Wado Kai, and Freestyle Karate.
