Welcome to Hobbs Lake Trout Fishery, located in the heart of West Norfolk near King's Lynn. This beautiful twenty-five-acre former gravel pit is part of the Nar Valley Fisheries complex but feels like a secluded oasis with its surrounding unspoilt countryside, woods, and meadows.
Hobbs Lake is an exclusive fishing club that operates on a season permit only basis. The club has transformed this man-made resource into a thriving 'Wild Trout' fishery through careful stocking policies and a strong emphasis on catch and release. As a result, Hobbs Lake is home to hard-fighting wild trout that any accomplished fly-fisherman would be delighted to target. The lake is known for its impressive 'Big Brownies,' which can be found searching the margins for prey, as well as muscular Rainbows that put on an impressive display of aerobatics when hooked.
In addition to the lake, members also have access to 1. 5 miles of the River Nar to fish for natural trout during the trout season, which runs from April to October. The River Nar is one of the 165 chalk-stream waterways in the UK, making it a globally important resource. It spans 26 miles from source to sea and is protected by a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) designation.
Hobbs Lake Trout Fishery is committed to preserving the environment and ensuring the longevity of the fishery. The river restoration project undertaken by the Norfolk Rivers Trust has significantly improved the habitat of this section of the River Nar. The project included reprofiling the river banks and bed, incorporating berms and large woody debris, creating gravel beds, and removing outdated installations. This enhancement work has led to a significant increase in the biomass of fish and a wider range of fish sizes, making it an even more rewarding fishing experience.
