Be happy to match the appropriate horse or pony to the rider's ability. Our horses and ponies are well-trained, well cared for, and are an essential part of our team.
At Hill Top Equestrian Centre, we pride ourselves on being a specialist dressage teaching facility. Our proprietor and principal instructor, Mrs S Newbound, is a BHS II British Dressage Regional Trainer, ensuring that our teaching standards are of the highest quality. We offer lessons for both adults and children, with a variety of options to suit different abilities and schedules.
For adult riders, we have lessons held throughout the day, into the evening, and on weekends, allowing for flexibility in scheduling. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced rider, we have horses to accommodate your needs. We have some advanced level horses for those more experienced riders, as well as horses that are specifically trained to teach adult novices. We also have a weight limit of 13 stone (82.
5 kgs) for beginners and novices, ensuring the safety and comfort of both horse and rider.
In addition to regular lessons, we also offer special events for our adult riders. Our annual adult mini camp week gives riders the opportunity to enter competitions and try new activities not available during regular lessons. We also have a “Coffee Cake and Canter” morning every fortnight, where adult riders can enjoy grooming, tacking up, and a group riding lesson. This is followed by a relaxing coffee and cake, providing a chance to get to know and make friends with other riders.
For children aged 9 and above, we offer lessons after school and on weekends. Children must be able to walk, trot, and canter unassisted to join a small group lesson. We aim to keep the groups as small as possible, ensuring individual attention and progress. We also offer a special deal for children where they can pay for 6 lessons in advance and get the 7th lesson free.
This offer is non-refundable and provides a great opportunity for children to improve their riding skills.
For children who are interested in furthering their practical skills and knowledge of ponies, we have the Hilltop Pony Club. Members of the Pony Club will learn about horse care, handling, and horse-related subjects through earning achievement badges. Competitions and official Pony Club tests will be held regularly, providing further opportunities for growth and development. To attend the Hilltop Pony Club, membership in the official national Pony Club is required.
Information about national Pony Club membership can be found on their website.
Our horses and ponies play a crucial role in our riding school, and we take great care of them. They vary in experience levels, with some being advanced school masters and others being perfect for novice riders. Our riders can be assured that they will be paired with the right horse or pony to meet their abilities and goals.
