About

Highland Ki Society, located in Inverness, is an Aikido club that brings together individuals passionate about the practise of Ki Aikido. Specifically, the club focuses on Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido or Aikido with Mind and Body Unified, which was developed by renowned instructor Koichi Tohei Sensei.

Highland Ki Society is a proud member of the Ki No Kenkyukai Musubi, the successor association to the Ki no Kenkyukai Internationale. This organisation, established by Kenjiro Yoshigasaki Sensei, aims to further advance the concepts and teachings of Koichi Tohei Sensei. With a presence in 24 countries, including Europe, Africa, and South America, the Ki No Kenkyukai Internationale boasts an impressive 186 dojos (clubs) worldwide.

At Highland Ki Society, the practise of Aikido is approached as Heiwa no Michi, the Way of Peace. The club conducts exercises for health as a part of their classes, incorporating breathing, flexing, and stretching routines. Additionally, members engage in Aikido exercises that contribute to the unification of their minds and bodies, as well as perfecting the body movements and mechanics utilised in Aikido techniques. Moreover, breathing and meditation techniques are also integrated into the training sessions.

Aikido and self-defence form a significant aspect of the practise at Highland Ki Society. The club starts with basic theory to build an understanding of the mechanics behind different techniques. As the training progresses, participants learn to synchronise their minds and bodies harmoniously. A key principle emphasised by Koichi Tohei Sensei is that “mind moves body.

” This notion is taught and applied by the members at Highland Ki Society, enabling them to execute movements effortlessly and move their training partners with minimal exertion.

Highland Ki Society is proud of its heritage and acknowledges the influential figures in the development of Aikido. The club pays tribute to Morehei Uyeshiba, the founder of Aikido, Koichi Tohei, the founder of Ki no Kenkyukai and Ki Society, and Kenjiro Yoshigasaki, the founder of Ki no Kenkyukai Internationale. These visionary leaders have laid the foundation for the practise of Aikido and have inspired generations of practitioners worldwide.

For individuals seeking a welcoming and supportive Aikido club in Inverness, Highland Ki Society offers an enriching experience. Whether one is interested in enhancing their physical health, developing self-defence skills, or learning the principles of harmony and peace, Highland Ki Society provides a nurturing environment for personal growth and learning.
