

High Elm Archers is a family-friendly archery club located near Hightown and Formby in Liverpool, Merseyside. Established in its current form in 1997, the club has a long history, originally formed in the sixties. The club takes its name from the address of its founders, Bill and Sally Fraser, who resided at Elmcroft Road, Hightown.
High Elm Archers is affiliated with Archery GB, the national governing body for archery in the UK. The club welcomes new members of all ages and abilities, from 12 years onwards. Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced archer, the club provides a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone.
The club offers a variety of archery disciplines, including target archery and clout archery. Members have the option to shoot with Olympic style recurve bows, compound bows, or traditional bows. The club has both indoor and outdoor facilities, allowing for year-round shooting.
For those interested in learning archery, High Elm Archers offers beginners courses run by their own qualified archery coaches. These courses provide a comprehensive introduction to archery and equip beginners with the skills and knowledge necessary to participate in the sport. The club also periodically offers taster sessions for those who want to try out archery before committing to a full course.
Throughout the year, High Elm Archers organises various club events, including fun shoots, challenge events, and club competitions. These events provide members with opportunities to socialise, develop their skills, and enjoy friendly competition within the club community.
During summer, the club shoots at Altcar armed forces training camp, which is located near Hightown and Formby. The range at Altcar offers a secure and sheltered shooting environment, with ample parking, a meeting room, and toilet facilities. Members are able to shoot both clout and target archery at a full range of distances up to 100 yards or 90 metres.
In winter, the club splits its shooting between indoor and outdoor venues. On Saturdays, members continue to shoot at Altcar, while on Wednesday evenings, the club utilises its new indoor venue, Formby High School.
As an affiliated club of Archery GB, High Elm Archers is committed to upholding the standards and safety guidelines set by the national governing body. The club is a registered member of Archery GB (GNAS), with the registration number 1290.
