High Country Rail Trail Horse Ride Inc is a sports club located in Towong Shire, Australia. The club specialises in horse riding activities along the Wodonga to Cudgewa High Country Rail Trail.
The High Country Rail Trail is a 30-kilometre trail that meanders along the foreshore of Lake Hume, offering breathtaking views and a unique riding experience. The trail is known for its diverse birdlife and crystal clear reflections from the lake.
One of the highlights of the trail is the separate equestrian trail between Sandy Creek and Old Tallangatta, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for both cyclists and horse riders.
The trail is divided into two stages. Stage one starts at Whytes Road and is a paved trail that transitions into a gravel track for the 27-kilometre stretch to Tallangatta. This section is suitable for mountain and hybrid bikes as well as horses. Riders can take a break at the newly constructed Sandy Creek bridge or the nearby picnic tables and viewing platform.
Stage two, which is best started at Shelley Station, offers a freewheel downhill experience through Pine Plantations and State forest for 20 kilometres. Riders will have the opportunity to walk around three timber trestle bridges at Koetong Creek, which are in the process of being restored.
Throughout the trail, there are regular parking and rest areas, allowing riders to explore sections at their leisure or complete the entire trail from one end to the other. The trail offers a warm bed, cold beer, and a choice of eateries for riders seeking relaxation after a thrilling ride.
High Country Rail Trail Horse Ride Inc strives to provide a memorable and enjoyable riding experience for all members. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced rider, the club welcomes you to join and explore the beauty of the High Country Rail Trail.
