Welcome to Hessle Shukokai Karate, Hull and East Yorkshire’s go-to martial arts school. For over 45 years, Tony Grainger, 7th Dan, has led our skilled team, producing champions in both kata and kumite.
At Hessle Shukokai Karate, we’re all about traditional Japanese methods and practical self-defence. Our classes boost your fitness, mental strength, discipline, and respect for yourself and others. It’s a fun and progressive environment for all.
We’ve got classes all week in Hessle, Wyke, and Hull. Catch us at Hessle Methodist Church Hall on Tuesdays and Thursdays, The Dance Studio at Wyke Sixth Form College on Wednesdays, and back at Hessle Methodist Church Hall on Saturdays. Whether you’re just starting out or have some belts under your name, there's a session for you.
No joining fees, just “pay as you learn,” with each lesson costing £6, and the first one’s on us. We offer family rates and optional standing order payments. Feel free to come and watch before diving in, and parents can join in the spectating.
We’ve got you covered for suits and gear at great prices. Each session kicks off with a warm-up and stretch before diving into kumite (semi-contact sparring) and kata (the art of forms), topped off with self-defence skills to tie it all together.
Our students make us proud—like Michael Chappell and Brett Thompson, who snagged gold and bronze medals at the SSU UK Nationals 2018. We also remember Yamada Sensei, a cherished figure in our community.
Join Hessle Shukokai Karate for top-notch training, personal growth, and a strong sense of community. Ready to kickstart your karate journey or hone your skills? Come along and give it a go!
