Welcome to Heretaunga Waka Ama Club, located in the serene Clive river area of New Zealand. This club is proud to utilise the three rivers Clive, Ngaruroro, and Tutaekuri as our playground for canoeing and kayaking. Our club offers a supportive and welcoming environment for individuals and families to learn and enjoy the art of paddling, regardless of age.
At Heretaunga Waka Ama Club, our main goal is to provide community-based Waka Ama programmes that encourage participation, competition, and a healthy lifestyle. We believe in fostering a safe, nurturing, and fun environment for all our members. Our mission is to promote the values of whanau (family) and individual participation while embracing the cultural traditions of the Ngati Kahungunu tribe.
We invite you to become a member of our club and experience the joy of paddling. Whether you are a novice or an experienced paddler, we have programmes and activities suitable for all skill levels. We offer a range of membership options to cater to different needs and interests within our community.
If you choose to join us, we have uniforms available to help foster a sense of belonging and unity within the club. Our uniform represents our commitment to the sport and our shared passion for canoeing and kayaking. Additionally, we encourage our members to engage in the tikanga (customs and practises), karakia (prayers), and waiata (songs) that are integral to our cultural heritage.
Safety is of utmost importance to us, and we have established protocols and procedures in place to ensure the well-being of our members. We provide training on water safety and have a designated flip procedure in case of emergencies. It is essential that all members adhere to these guidelines to maintain a secure environment for everyone.
To stay updated and connected with the club, we encourage you to subscribe to our Panui Newsletter. This newsletter will keep you informed about upcoming events, training sessions, and any other relevant news and updates. We also have a dedicated booking officer who must be contacted before using any of our waka (canoes).
