Henbury FC, previously known as Henbury Old Boys FC, is a football club located in Henbury, Bristol. Founded in 1962, the club changed its title to Henbury FC in 2005. The team is affectionately known as “The Tangy's” by its supporters.
Henbury FC is affiliated with the Gloucestershire Football Association and is a member of the Bristol top Combination in the top division, the Senior Division of the Bristol & District League, and the Division 2 of the Bristol Under 18s Combination. The club's home ground is located at Arnall Drive Playing Field on Lorain Walk in Henbury.
Unfortunately, recent seasons have been challenging for Henbury FC, resulting in the team being relegated from the Gloucestershire County League at the end of the 2022/23 season. The team had been part of the County League for an impressive 37 seasons, second only to Patchway Town who also got relegated at the same time. Now, the focus is on rebuilding the squad and aiming to win promotion back to the County League and beyond.
Winter training for both the senior team and the Under 18s takes place every Tuesday from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm on the 3G pitch at St Bedes Catholic College in Long Cross, Lawrence Weston.
Henbury FC welcomes new players who are looking to join a well-established club in the Bristol top Combination or the Senior Division of the Bristol & District League. Additionally, those who qualify for Under 18s football are also encouraged to contact the club. Interested individuals can reach out via email at henburyfootballclub@gmail. Com or follow the club on Twitter @HenburyFC.
Henbury FC has its own website, which is different from the majority of football club websites in England that use platforms like Pitchero or ClubPro. The club's website has been created by the club itself to provide a unique and easy-to-navigate experience. Chairman Charlie Barron has compiled an extensive record covering every season since the club's formation, with the intention to include as much of it as possible on the website. Visitors are encouraged to check back periodically for added content.
The club's motto is “Le Bon Viendra,” which translates to “Good Will Come. ” Henbury Old Boys was formed with the aim to participate in Division 4 of The Bristol Downs Association Football League. Over the years, the club has seen various dedicated individuals serve its cause, including founder members Chairman Bill Williams, Secretary Ron Excell, Treasurer Ron Crocombe, and committee members Cliff Gryphon, Jack Fisk, Fred Jones, and Arnold Rogers.
During its early years, the first team played on The Downs, while the second and third teams, along with the youth teams, played on pitches at Arnall Drive Playing Fields. Players changed in the scout's hut in Satchfield Crescent and walked a short distance of two hundred metres to the pitch. After four seasons in The Downs League, the committee made the decision to join The Bristol & District League, where they positioned the dressing rooms.
