The Royal Motor Yacht Club Toronto is thrilled to announce the upcoming Heaven Can Wait Charity Sailing Regatta. This fantastic event, held annually, showcases the love and passion for sailing that our club members and the local community possess.
But it's not just about sailing; it's about making a meaningful difference. The regatta is organised in support of the Hunter branch of Cancer Council NSW, a remarkable organisation that offers invaluable domestic support services to cancer patients, both in the terminal and recovery phases. The regatta's founder, Shaun Lewicki, is not only an avid sailor but also a cancer survivor himself, making this event even more special.
One unique aspect of the regatta is the inclusion of a virtual fundraising race. Participants have the opportunity to contribute to the charities, knowing that their entry fees go directly into the hands of those who need it most. In fact, our previous regattas have seen astounding success, with over $550,000 raised in total, and an impressive $45,000 raised in 2023 alone.
The regatta takes place on the breathtaking waters of Lake Macquarie, offering a picturesque backdrop for the thrilling races. There are four races in total, ensuring there's something for everyone. Whether you're a seasoned sailor or just starting out, you can participate in the Short One Lap Dash or the Classic One Lap Dash, open to all yachts, multihulls, and trailer sailers. And for those seeking an exhilarating challenge, the 12 Hour Race and the 24 Hour Race will push your skills to the limit.
Mark your calendars for the 18th edition of the regatta, set to be held in 2024 as part of the larger aquatic event, Lakefest. It promises to be an unforgettable experience filled with excellent competition, camaraderie, and a chance to give back to the community. To make the event even more special, a Charity Dinner will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024, at the Royal Motor Yacht Club Toronto, providing a fantastic opportunity to connect with fellow sailing enthusiasts and support a worthy cause.
