Hazlehead Golf Club, located in New Zealand, boasts three beautiful courses that cater to golfers of all skill levels. The crown jewel of the club is the MacKenzie Championship Course, which was designed by the renowned golf architect, Dr Alister MacKenzie, famous for his work on Augusta National in America. This course provides a challenging test of golf skills, with hazards such as gorse and woodland that can penalise any wayward shots.
For those seeking a more forgiving course, the Pines Course offers a more open aspect and is suitable for higher handicap players. Originally a nine-hole course, it was extended in the early 1970s by Ryder Cup players Hugget, Coles, and Dyer. The scenic setting of the Pines Course adds to its charm and appeal.
The club also has a Nine Hole Course, perfect for enthusiastic beginners. With wide fairways and a lack of trees, this course provides an ideal starting point for those new to the sport. One of the standout holes on this course is the Sahara, a magnificent par 5 stretching 503 yards, featuring grass-covered dunes that resemble a desert.
In addition to its impressive courses, Hazlehead Golf Club hosts a wide variety of fixtures throughout the golfing season. These fixtures cater to all playing sections of the membership, offering opportunities for both men and women to participate in club competitions. The club also organises and hosts open tournaments in partnership with Sport Aberdeen, allowing golfers from outside the club to enjoy the Hazlehead experience.
One notable event is the annual Ladies Tri-am Tournament, scheduled for Sunday, 16th July in 2023. This tournament, held in the morning with tee times available, welcomes teams of three to compete for a fee of 45 per team. Interested participants can download the application form from the club's website or obtain a physical form from Glenn behind the bar.
Hazlehead Golf Club also offers preferential tee-time slots allocated exclusively to club members for Saturday competitions. Due to high demand, a rota system is in place to ensure fairness. New and existing members interested in joining the rota can contact the club for more information.
With its stunning courses, diverse fixtures, and vibrant social events, Hazlehead Golf Club is a haven for both seasoned golfers and novices alike. Whether you're looking for a challenging round, a social competition, or a chance to connect with fellow golf enthusiasts, Hazlehead Golf Club has something to offer for everyone.
