Welcome to Hazel Wand Theatre School! Hazel Wand is one of Northern Ireland's longest established stage schools, located in Omagh. Since opening its doors on Bridge Street in 1993, thousands of students have attended weekly lessons to develop their skills in all aspects of the performing arts.
The team at Hazel Wand Theatre School consists of trained professionals in theatre education or theatrical practise. With specialists in the three fields of performing arts – Drama, Music, and Dance – each member brings something unique to the table. It's worth noting that all staff members started out as students under the guidance of Hazel Wand's founder, Sister Aengus Fitzpatrick MBE.
The Hazel Wand ethos of 'performing together' is carried forward by the dedicated team, ensuring a cross-community approach to all activities. Whether you or your child is interested in drama, music, or dance, there is a wide variety of classes available at Hazel Wand Theatre School.
In the drama classes, students aged 3 to 18 are divided into smaller groups according to their age, allowing for personalised attention and optimal learning. Students have the opportunity to develop their drama, singing, and dance skills in a supportive and nurturing environment. Each lesson offers a unique experience, introducing students to a range of performance skills and styles.
On Saturdays, Hazel Wand collaborates with ES Creative to offer group dance classes. These classes focus on building a strong foundation in dance technique while nurturing confidence and versatility. Divided by age, these 90-minute classes run in 6-week blocks, preparing students to become confident performers on stage and in auditions.
For those interested in music, Hazel Wand Theatre School offers both group and individual tuition in singing and piano. Experienced and qualified tutors guide students in developing their vocal and piano skills. Students can choose to work towards taking classical exams or simply enhance their techniques and talents through tailored lessons.
Hazel Wand Theatre School also caters to students in year 11 or year 13 who wish to pursue GCSE or A Level Drama. Taught by PGCE qualified teachers, these courses span an academic year and include performance, devising, coursework, live theatre visits, and a written paper based on the study of set plays. Students thrive in this casual studio setting and achieve excellent results in their qualifications.
Every year, Hazel Wand Theatre School offers students the opportunity to undertake NEA exams in Speech & Drama, Acting, and Musical Theatre. These exams range from initial grades all the way up to diploma level and teacher diploma level. Experienced and qualified teachers provide one-to-one training to ensure each student receives the necessary guidance and support to achieve their best.
