About
Bill, the organiser at the Hawke Sea Scouts, wants to share some exciting information with the local sports community. For nearly 90 years, Hawke Sea Scouts in Auckland has been a place where young people can engage in adventure sports, education, and sailing. As part of a global scouting programme started in 1909, this group welcomes children and young adults from 6 years old upwards, striving to maintain a balance of boys and girls for an inclusive environment.
The team at Hawke Sea Scouts, consisting entirely of volunteer parents, focuses on making the sea an enjoyable place to learn maritime skills. Activities like sailing, knotting, lashing, and various water adventures offer valuable experience to the youth members.
But it’s not just about fun. Bill emphasises that the programme is values-based, teaching good behaviour, respect, and honesty through the Scout Promise and Law. Members pick up essential skills, including outdoor skills, first aid, citizenship, and leadership, all while learning to work well with others.
Scouting has a rich history of shaping young people into community leaders, and Hawke Sea Scouts takes pride in contributing to their growth. The programme encourages participants to become self-fulfilled, constructive members of society through non-formal educational activities outside traditional schooling.
While recreational activities are essential, Bill and the team are committed to providing a process that helps young people become self-reliant, supportive, responsible, and committed citizens, all working towards building a better world together.
