Hawkes Bay Kyokushin Karate, located on 202 Lovedale Road in St Leonards, Hastings, is a karate school in the Hawke's Bay region of New Zealand. The school is dedicated to promoting the values of courage, honour, and respect through the practise of Kyokushin Karate.
At HBK, they believe in inspiring learning and providing a supportive and fun environment for students of all ages. Whether you are a child just starting your karate journey or an adult looking to improve your fitness and self-defence skills, there is a class for everyone at HBK.
The school offers a range of classes to cater to different needs and schedules. If you have a busy schedule and are already getting fitness in other areas, the once-a-week class is perfect for you. While you may not grade as frequently as those training more often, you can still advance through the ranks if you put in extra time and effort.
For those looking to challenge themselves and see steady improvement, it is recommended to train at least twice per week. This frequency of training allows for continuous progress and development.
If you have aspirations of competing in tournaments or advancing to higher grades, it is necessary to train at least three times per week. Regular and intensive training is vital for achieving these goals.
In addition to regular classes, HBK also offers a specialised programme, ABC 4 Kids Karate. This programme is designed for children aged 7–12 years and is held over a 10-week course during the school term. The programme includes 20 classes (twice a week), an international membership, the first grading, and an obi (belt).
Membership at HBK includes a one-time payment for an international membership. This lifetime membership grants access to the New Zealand Karate Organisation Kyokushinkaikan Inc. and the International Karate Organisation Kyokushinkaikan - Japan (IKO1-Matsui).
Grading at HBK is a milestone in the karate journey. When you first start karate, you should be ready to grade by the end of a 10-week course, depending on your training frequency and practise at home. The grading process is by invitation from Shihan Takiwa, the instructor at HBK, and students are notified when they are ready.
