Located on Eastbourne Street in Hastings, the Hastings Giant's Boxing Academy is a boxing gym that offers Olympic-style boxing training to young men and women. Established in 2015 by Craig McDougall, the academy aims to instil discipline, fitness, and good manners in its members, while fostering an active and engaged community.
If you are interested in supporting the academy's life-changing work on a regular basis, you can become a Giants Supporter. There are four levels of support to choose from, ranging from Welter Weight at $10 per month to Super Heavy Weight at $100 per month. By becoming a Giants Supporter, you can help grow young men and women into adults who live lives they value.
For one-time or monthly donations, you can make a bank deposit to the Hawkes Bay Youth Trust's account, or send a cheque payable to the trust. If you require a receipt for your donation, please include your contact details.
The academy's full timetable resumes on July 20th, 2020. The boys' boxing academy offers programmes for three age groups: Cadet (8-10 years old), Junior (11–14 years old), and Senior (15+ years old). Similarly, the girls' boxing academy has programmes for Cadet (8-12 years old) and Senior (13+ years old) age groups. Each term's fees range from $100 to $125 per person, with a 10% discount available for siblings.
In addition to boxing training, the academy also offers training sessions with Seamus, including fitness running sessions and Aikido classes. Aikido is a modern Japanese martial art that combines effective self-defence techniques without the need for injury. Children and adults alike can build their confidence and coordination through Aikido classes.
For individuals looking for a personal trainer and mentor, Dave Odumesi, a manager at Jett's gym, is available at the academy. As a Lv1 Boxing Coach, he offers personalised training and mentoring services to help individuals achieve their fitness and boxing goals.
The academy also offers family and friends gym memberships, providing access to the gym facilities from 5 am to 10 pm, seven days a week. This allows members to train at their convenience and enjoy the gym's amenities.
