Martin would like to share some exciting news about the Haslingden and District Fly Fishing Club, set in the heart of the serene Lancashire countryside, overlooking the charming Rossendale Valley. Nestled between Haslingden and Blackburn, this spot offers tranquillity and a delightful setting for fly-fishing enthusiasts.
The club, established in 1966 by a group of dedicated locals, including Harold Howarth and Stephen Crossfields, started with a focus on natural Brown Trout fishing. In 1982, faced with increased lease charges from North West Water, the club transformed. A new committee turned things around, deciding to stock the reservoir with farmed fish and expand membership, leading to the club's current success.
Today, with a maximum of 200 members, Haslingden and District Fly Fishing Club has grown impressively. The reservoir is well-stocked with lively rainbow trout and natural brown trout, ranging from 1.5lbs to over 5lbs. Regular stocking ensures a plentiful fish population throughout the year.
Ogden reservoir is particularly great for dry fly-fishing, especially from May to September, thanks to the abundance of insects.
Membership offers many benefits. Members can use rowing boats to enhance their fishing experience and have access to Holden Wood Reservoir, governed by coarse fishing rules. Winter fly tying classes at select venues help members sharpen their skills, and events like open days with a “bring and buy” section offer chances to buy or sell fishing gear.
If fly-fishing is your passion, consider joining Haslingden and District Fly Fishing Club. Visit the club's website for more information and to apply for membership. Join today and become part of a welcoming community that shares your love for fly-fishing.
