Ryan wishes to inform the sports community of the wonderful opportunities offered by Harlow (Blackwater) Sailing Club, situated at Maylandsea on Lawling Creek, a tributary of the River Blackwater.
Initially started with runs through the town, the club's growing passion for sailing led members to their current location, which offers superior tidal access and more extensive sailing opportunities.
Harlow (Blackwater) Sailing Club takes pride in being a welcoming, family-friendly establishment 🎉. They cater to all levels of sailors—from beginners to experts—and offer an array of activities. Dinghy sailing remains popular, allowing members to explore the sheltered creeks and expansive Blackwater River. There is also a vibrant racing scene, with a full programme of races running from March to December.
For those interested in a different type of sailing experience, the club provides cruiser sailing, with mooring facilities and winter storage available. This allows for day and weekend sailing and serves as a great starting point for more adventurous trips to Holland, Belgium, and France ✈️. Non-sailing, motorised cruisers are permitted, pending committee approval.
Beyond dinghy and cruiser sailing, the club offers windsurfing, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding. The sheltered bay and creek are ideal for windsurfing enthusiasts, while the creek is perfect for exploring by kayak or SUP.
To ensure all members have access to the necessary gear, the club provides a range of equipment, including club dinghies, kayaks, and beginner windsurfing equipment. This enables everyone to participate in their preferred activities.
Ryan encourages everyone to join in the community spirit as the club organises social events throughout the year, such as club nights, BBQs, and regattas. These events offer a chance for members to connect, share their love for sailing, and build lasting friendships 🎈.
New members are always welcome, with affordable membership fees starting at less than £3.50 per week. Mooring facilities are also available for those with their own boats. The club has a dedicated website where prospective members can find the membership application form and useful information.
Conveniently located near Chelmsford and Maldon in Essex, Harlow (Blackwater) Sailing Club offers stunning views and a tranquil environment on Lawling Creek, opposite Osea Island. This makes the club easily accessible for members from the surrounding areas.
Ryan looks forward to seeing both new and existing members at Harlow (Blackwater) Sailing Club—a vibrant and inclusive community where everyone can learn, compete, and enjoy sailing on the beautiful River Blackwater. ⛵
