Harlequin School of Dance & Performing Arts, established in 1999, is a renowned dance school located in Alfreton Town Centre, High Street. Situated above Boots, the school is easily accessible from nearby towns and villages such as Swanwick, Ripley, Riddings, Somercotes, South Normanton, Higham, Heage, Heanor, and Ilkeston.
As an IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association) registered school, Harlequin offers a wide range of classes for students of all ages, starting from as young as 3 years old, and progressing through to advanced levels of dance. The school prides itself on providing high-quality tuition and achieving outstanding examination results in Ballet, Tap, Modern Jazz, and Theatre Craft. Additionally, students receive excellent training in Acrobatic dance and Street, although these styles are not currently offered as examination subjects.

The Harlequin studios boast approximately 3225 square feet of space, including two spacious dance studios. Studio 1 measures 10 × 12m, while Studio 2 is around 10 × 10m. The premises also include male and female toilets, three changing rooms, a small kitchen/waiting area, and a large costume storage room. Another convenience for students and parents is the 'stock-shop' located on-site, offering a range of dance uniforms, bags, shoes, and accessories.
The prime location of Harlequin School of Dance & Performing Arts, situated above BOOTS in Alfreton town centre on the corner of the main pedestrian drag, provides easy access to several long-stay car parks. Moreover, coffee and refreshment options are available nearby, with Greggs located right next door, and Costa Coffee directly opposite.
The school follows a busy schedule throughout the year. January to March is focused on show preparation, culminating in the Annual production at the end of March or early April. February and May involve participation in local dance competitions, showcasing students' skills and dedication. June, July, and August are dedicated to preparing for IDTA Examinations, which take place in September.
October brings more festival fever, while November and December are reserved for additional examinations. Harlequin is also pleased to provide dance displays for fundraising events, charity functions, school summer fairs, and Carnivals.
