Harbour Lights Scuba Diving (HLSD) is a reputable Scuba Diving Club located in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire. The club offers a comprehensive range of courses, including PADI certification, making it an ideal place for individuals to become qualified SCUBA divers. Notably, HLSD is open to divers from all recognised scuba diving organisations, such as BSAC, PADI, SSI, and SSA, providing a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.
One of the standout features of HLSD is their regular trips to Tenerife, where they have the largest dive boat on the island. The club takes full advantage of the friendly locals and relaxed atmosphere to offer participants the opportunity to finish off their courses or simply join in for some excellent diving and lots of laughs.
HLSD was established in 2000 by Gordon Harland, a certified PADI Instructor. His vision to create a club specifically for those trained by PADI stemmed from a lack of available options in the area. Since then, the club has experienced tremendous growth and has become highly regarded within the diving community.
The club meets every Thursday night at the Hemel Hempstead Sports Centre in Hertfordshire. Pool nights hold great importance to the club, as they allow divers to keep their skills up to date. Additionally, those who haven't dived in a while have the opportunity to brush up on their skills before embarking on a diving trip or holiday.
HLSD boasts an active dive programme throughout the year, both domestically and internationally. Their website features a comprehensive diary dates and events section, providing members with easy access to all upcoming diving opportunities. Furthermore, the club has its own 6-metre RIB (rigid inflatable boat) and 15 complete sets of scuba diving kits and equipment. Moreover, they also possess a 10-metre hard boat stationed in Tenerife, accompanied by diving equipment.
The club's commitment to safety is demonstrated through their recent acquisition of new first aid equipment. Thanks to a 500 grant received from Councillor Ron Tindall, HLSD was able to purchase a new Resusci Anne along with other first aid training equipment. This funding request was made in response to the deteriorating condition of their previous equipment, as evidenced by an incident where Resusci Anne's head detached during a first aid course.
First aid is highly valued within the diving community, as divers often venture into remote areas where immediate medical assistance may not be readily available. With this in mind, HLSD prioritises providing members with the necessary skills to respond effectively in emergency situations.
Overall, Harbour Lights Scuba Diving is a leading diving club that offers a variety of courses, a vibrant community, and exciting diving opportunities at home and abroad. Whether someone is interested in learning to dive or is already an experienced diver, HLSD provides a supportive and engaging environment for all.
