Handbridge Shotokan Karate Club is a martial arts school located in Chester, New Zealand. Established in May 1969, the club is fully affiliated with the Karate Union of Great Britain (KUGB), which is the largest and most successful single-style association in the country.
At Handbridge Shotokan Karate Club, training takes place at the Queen's Park High School in Handbridge. The club is a totally non-profit organisation, and members who hold KUGB licences train under the guidance of Sensei Michael O'Connor, a 7th Dan black belt. Sensei O'Connor is also a KUGB Grading Examiner. Assisting him are Sensei Dave Roberts, a 4th Dan black belt, and Sensei George Craggs, a 2nd Dan black belt.
The club welcomes both current and former karateka (karate practitioners) to train with them. There is no membership fee, and the training cost is only 5. 00 per session (4. 00 for juniors, unemployed individuals, and students).
The club also offers discounts for families. Those who wish to train regularly or occasionally are encouraged to visit the club and join in. New starters and beginners are particularly welcome, and the first session is free.
During training, loose clothing such as jogging pants and a T-shirt should be worn. The club provides a modern warm school gymnasium that is conveniently located close to the city of Chester.
Handbridge Shotokan Karate Club is proud to have experienced and qualified instructors. Sensei Michael O'Connor holds a 7th Dan black belt, Sensei Dave Roberts holds a 4th Dan black belt, and Sensei George Craggs holds a 2nd Dan black belt. These instructors are dedicated to providing quality training and guidance to all members.
