Just a quick note from Alex, your local sports organiser, about & City Karate Club – City Dojo in London. This club is a great spot for anyone interested in traditional Shotokan Karate. It's backed by the International Shotokan Karate Federation (ISKF) and offers a welcoming environment for people of all ages and skill levels.
Classes are held in Hampstead at The Armoury and in the City at Finsbury Leisure Centre. You can join the Saturday sessions at The Armoury from 14:30 to 16:00 if you’re seven or older. The Monday classes at Finsbury Leisure Centre are from 19:00 to 20:00, but they're for those aged 14 and above.
Fees are per session: adults pay £12 on Saturdays and £10 on Mondays, while kids aged 7-16 pay £10 on Saturdays and those 14-16 pay £8 on Mondays. Everyone trains together, in the same space, so it's a really inclusive setup.
Newcomers, just wear some comfy sportswear to your first class – you won't need shoes. You can buy karate suits and belts directly from the club when you're ready. After your second lesson, you'll need an annual licence with the ISKF for insurance. If you're already part of another karate group, bring along any training docs or grading records you have.
One of the best parts of being in this club is working your way through the kyu (colour) belt system. You'll need 26 hours of training and a valid ISKF UK licence to be eligible for grading. The club follows the ISKF belt colours, from white to black, and supports you with the necessary materials for your training.
For more details, check out the club’s website or their social media on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. Any questions, drop an email to info@hampsteadkarate.co.uk or info@hampsteadandcitykarate.uk.
Alex invites you to join & City Karate Club – City Dojo and enjoy the community, discipline, and personal growth that come with practising Shotokan Karate.
